NAL and EssilorLuxottica’s Nuance Audio publish peer-reviewed clinical trial on Nuance Audio Glasses

The National Acoustic Laboratories, in collaboration with EssilorLuxottica’s Nuance Audio brand, has published a peer-reviewed clinical trial evaluating the performance of Nuance Audio Glasses. The study has been published in the Journal of Otolaryngology ENT Research and is available as open access.

The clinical investigation was led by the National Acoustic Laboratories and assessed listening performance in adults with perceived mild to moderate hearing difficulties. The trial examined speech understanding in noise and listening preferences across both controlled laboratory conditions and real-world communication environments.

“Innovation is advancing rapidly in hearing healthcare, and it was great for NAL to be able to partner with EssilorLuxottica’s Nuance Audio to demonstrate the benefit that the Nuance Audio Glasses can bring to people with hearing difficulty in noisy environments.” –Dr Brent Edwards, NAL Director

Clinical trial outcomes

The published findings report:

  • – Improvements in speech understanding in noise with Nuance Audio Glasses used in conjunction with the companion app.
  • – Consistent preference for aided listening compared with unaided listening across laboratory and real-world settings.
  • – Positive participant-reported outcomes aligned with objective performance measures.

“Partnering with NAL has been an outstanding experience. What makes these results especially meaningful is that they extend beyond strong lab performance into real-world benefit. The COSI findings clearly show that Nuance Audio Glasses are addressing the everyday challenges of people with perceived mild to moderate hearing loss “ Tami Harel, Chief of Audiology, Nuance Audio, EssilorLuxottica

The results contribute to the growing evidence base for audio eyewear as an accessible hearing support solution and reinforce the importance of rigorous, independent clinical evaluation of emerging hearing technologies.

“This collaboration has brought together NAL’s clinical research expertise and cutting-edge technology to deliver meaningful improvements in real-world listening experiences. We look forward to seeing the positive impact these results will have for people with hearing loss.” –Bettina Turnbull, Sr. Innovation Audiologist and Project Lead
