Hearing Services Program Review

NAL is honoured to have contributed to the stakeholder and community consultations and it’s great to see our research working towards improving the Hearing Services Program and making a positive impact on people with hearing loss.

On 14 August 2020, the Hon Mark Coulton, Minister for Regional Health, Regional Communications and Local Government, announced a review into the Hearing Services Program in Australia. A Draft Report was released recently inviting any interested parties to provide feedback through the Consultation Hub before the deadline.

Earlier this year, NAL produced a report for the Department of Health to inform on which outcome domains best measure successful hearing rehabilitation in the Hearing Services Program.

The report, entitled Defining Outcomes for the Hearing Service Program highlights the four top-ranked outcome domains, which are communication ability, personal relationships, well-being and participation. Seven recommendations are provided, including those relating to a potential future national outcomes database. You can download the public summary here and the full report here.
