Steve Winnall is Head of Technology Research at NAL, where he leads the Technology Research Team and oversees the organisation’s technology research portfolio. He brings extensive experience building and leading high-performing R&D teams to deliver globally impactful outcomes across multiple industries.
Steve’s background includes significant contributions to hearing healthcare at Cochlear, where he led the development of the Nucleus 5 sound processor from concept through to global launch. He has also led R&D initiatives in areas such as LiDAR for autonomous vehicles, satellite communication systems, and robotics aimed at reducing fuel consumption and food waste. His work frequently incorporates AI/ML technologies and cloud-based solutions, and he has advised universities and startups on the commercialisation of early-stage research.
