Signal processing & machine learning approaches for rapid biological signal detection

Project Goals

We have developed a method to test and analyse sounds given off by one small part of the cochlea when it is stimulated by soft clicking sounds. The methods can be used to identify multiple types of auditory problems at the auditory nerve and cochlear levels. The test is administered in 8 min. Although highly desirable, the test is considered long for hearing screening purposes.  In the current project, we aimed to improve the speed at which our test can function.

Results

We were able to successfully implement modern approaches in both sound delivery and analysis. The result of this implementation has improved the speed of our tool, from 8 min down to around 2-3 mins, while providing the same level of performance as the original test.
