Giao is a machine learning engineer with a strong passion for applying machine learning and AI to solve problems across different industries, particularly in healthcare.
She holds a Bachelor of Science in Bioengineering Systems from the University of Melbourne. For her Capstone project, she applied signal processing, analytical, and statistical techniques to develop an algorithm capable of diagnosing Parkinson’s disease using EEG signals with high accuracy and resolution. She was also awarded a Vacation Research Scholarship by Monash University, where she analysed EEG signals to investigate the impact of different cognitive states on the processing of visual stimuli.
Giao also holds a Master of Engineering degree from Flinders University. In her second year, she joined the data science team at an electronics company in Adelaide. For her Master’s thesis, sponsored by the company, she developed an algorithm to remove motion artifacts from photoplethysmography signals using machine learning and signal processing techniques. This algorithm was later implemented in a medical device developed by the company. With this project, she won the Most Outstanding Biomedical Engineering Award and the Best Project Presentation from the Society of Biological and Medical Engineering SA/NT. Giao also received the University Medal for achieving the highest GPA in her cohort at the College of Science and Engineering, along with the Chancellor’s Letters of Commendation for outstanding academic performance in 2022 and 2023.
In addition to her Master’s project, Giao developed various algorithms and machine learning models for the data science team and collaborated with software engineers to integrate these models into different systems. She also has strong experience in collaborating with different stakeholders to develop data science solutions for different departments. After completing her Master’s, she continued working at the company for another year before joining NAL.
