Co-operative Research Centre
The CRC programme was established by the Federal Government in 1990 in order to promote collaboration between universities, research organisations and industry thus facilitating the practical applications and utilisation of the research. There has been a funding round approximately every two years since the programme's inception.
Australian Hearing through the National Acoustic Laboratories is one of the five core parties that form the HEARing CRC, which was one of the successful CRCs to be awarded funding by the Department of Education, Science and Training in 2006. The other core parties are Macquarie University, the University of Melbourne, Cochlear Ltd and Siemens Hearing Instruments Pty Ltd, there are also 18 supporting members. Many of NAL's research projects are carried out as part of its commitment to the HEARing CRC.
