Acoustical Testing Services

NAL provides testing of all hearing protectors, earmuffs, earplugs and helmet mounted devices in accordance with the requirements of combined Australian/New Zealand Standard AS/NZS 1269: 1999 Occupational noise management and AS1270 Acoustics - Hearing protectors, known as hearing protection devices. Testing involves measuring the hearing threshold of at least 15 subjects for each device and comparing the thresholds with those obtained for the unprotected ear. Mean and standard deviations are calculated for each 1/3 octave band over the range 100Hz to 10,000Hz. Our highly trained technical staff can assist in development work with preliminary assessment using artificial-ears and acoustic mannequins.
