Keynote Speaker:

Professor Don Henderson, State University of New York at Buffalo, Director, Department of Communicative Disorders and Sciences, Speech Language Pathology and Audiology. Author of over 80 articles and editor of several volumes. Aging in the ear; Noise Induced Hearing Loss; Continuous vs Impulsive Noise; Ototoxicity and mutually potentiating factors such as chemicals leading to permanent hearing loss.

Associate Professor Henrik Dahl, Murdoch Childrens Research Institute, Royal Childrens Hospital, Melbourne, Victoria. Genetic predisposition to hearing loss, role of Connexons, Connexin-related hearing defects as the basis for variable susceptibility to hearing loss.

Dr. Ramesh Rajan, Monash University, Department of Physiology, Clayton, Victoria.  The role of descending and crossed neural pathways in internal cochlear protection from noise injury. Plasticity.

Dr. Ross Dineen, Audiologist, Heidelberg, Victoria. Work-related noise injury and tinnitus, costs of noise-induced hearing loss, effectiveness of hearing conservation programs

Dr. Eric LePage, National Acoustic Laboratories, Chatswood, NSW.  Trends in the technology of sound production, rise in hearing loss in young people. Notions of susceptibility to hearing loss, temporary and permanent shifts in hearing levels and otoacoustic emissions. Older and newer approaches to hearing conservation. Implications for behaviour modification, communication, literacy development and screening programs.
