Hearing protector testing
NAL provides testing of hearing protectors in accordance with the requirements of combined Australian/New Zealand Standard AS/NZS 1269: 1999 Occupational noise management and AS1270 Acoustics - Hearing protectors, known as hearing protection devices. Testing involves measuring the hearing threshold of at least 15 subjects for each device and comparing the thresholds with those obtained for the unprotected ear. Mean and standard deviations are calculated for each 1/3 octave band over the range 100Hz to 10,000Hz. The results are published in a NAL booklet called Attenuation and Use of Hearing Protectors (8th edition).
